Laser Vision SurgeryIf you have suffer from nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism, there are now several options available that may reduce or eliminate your need for glasses or contacts. LASIK has been proven as an effective treatment for a wide range of vision problems. If you've been told you're not a good candidate for LASIK, there are now other treatments available for you, including LASEK, EpiLASIK, Phakic IOL's, Implantable Contact Lens and Intacs. Presbyopia
If you're over 40, had good vision most of your life but are now having problems reading, sewing or working on the computer, you've probably got presbyopia. This condition, which almost everyone experiences at some point, is due to a hardening of the lens of the eye. NearVision CK (Conductive Keratoplasty) can treat "aging eyes" and free you from reading glasses or bifocals. It uses gentle radio waves, without lasers or cutting. Cataracts
If you experience decreased or cloudy vision, poor night vision or increasing glare, you may have cataracts. A cataract is clouding of the lens of the eye. The only remedy for cataracts is surgery; refractive cataract surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, with no stitches and no patches. Cataract surgery maybe the most commonly performed surgery in the United States, and refractive cataract surgery takes the visual result to a higher level. New technologies such as Crystalens and Acrysof ReSTOR lens offer the possibility of clear vision at all distances, from near to far and everything in between. Dry Eyes
If your eyes sting or burn, or water constantly, you may be suffering from dry eye. You may also have strained or tired eyes after reading, even for short periods of time. If you wear contacts, they will likely feel uncomfortable. Having dry eyes for a while can lead to tiny abrasions on the surface of your eyes. Dry eye can often be treated with artificial tears, punctual plugs, supplements and/or medication. Corneal Transplant
The cornea is the clear surface on the front of the eye. A corneal transplant is surgery to replace the cornea with tissue from a donor. It is one of the most common transplants done. Corneal transplantation is recommended for people who have vision problems caused by thinning of the cornea. This is called keratoconus. Other conditions requiring corneal transplant include scarring of the cornea from severe infections or injuries, and vision loss caused by cloudiness of the cornea, called Fuchs’ dystrophy. Pterygium
A pterygium is a non-cancerous growth of the clear, thin tissue that lays over the white part of the eye (conjunctiva). One or both eyes may be involved. The cause is unknown, but it is more common in people with excess outdoor exposure to sunlight and wind, such as those who work outdoors. Risk factors are exposure to sunny, dusty, sandy, or windblown areas. Farmers, fishermen, and people living near the equator are often affected. Offering two convenient locations to serve you in Denver and Fort Collins, Colorado, Paul E. Cutarelli, M.D. has improved the vision of more than 60,000 patients just like you.
